Brain Drain ! A Major Problem In India

Brain Drain means the migration of highly qualified experts like doctors, engineers, scientist and other trained persons from the under-developed countries to advancing countries. More or less, all the backward countires are suffering from this problem. India is also suffering from this brain drain seriously at the present moment.

Thus brain drain is a direct loss, of trained experts in many fields, to the under-developed and poor countries. On the other hand, it is a net gain to the advanced countries. According to a UNO report, every year thousands of experts are migrating from backward countries to advanced countries like USA, UK, Canada, Germany etc. The under-developed countries are spending millions of rupees on the training of these experts. But the advanced countries are utilizing their services without spending a single penny on their training.

Every year, thousands of highly talented doctors, engineers, scientists and other intellectuals leave India and migrate to foreign countries. They generally go to U.S.A, UK, Canada, West Germany, etc for monetary gains and facilities for higher research. US is the biggest gainer from the loss of India due to brain drain.

Most of the students who go abroad for higher studies do not return to India. After seeing, the affluent life of foreign countries they lose all interest in their own country. Many Indians are teaching at various US Universities and other Institutions of higher learning. Some of them are placed on quite lucrative and high posts.

There are so many causes of the brain drain in India. First of all, there is the unemployment problem. Even a talented person cannot get job. India is lacking in facilities for higher research work. The top appointments are quite few in India. Thus the talented experts like to seek new pastures abroad.

There is another attraction of leading a higher standard of living in foreign countries, because the technical experts and intellectuals, are give special facilities there. In foreign countries, there is the advantage that while learning a person can also earn his own living. The stipends in foreign countries are sufficient enough. A frugal Indian Student living there can also save something to send home.

There is no doubt that India is having vast natural and man power resources. If both these resources are put to the maximum utilization astounding advancement can be achieved in all fields. These technical and other talented reasons whom we lose every year, can greatly help in the development of our natural resources. The government must take speedy steps to lure back home these talented sons of India who are living abroad. These experts can surely help in making India a great power in the world.

In this connection, even the people should also come forward and cooperate with the Government in solving this problem. The parents of the students should not encourage them to go abroad and settle there even if they are paid high salaries.

The doctors, engineers and scientists owe a duty to their motherland. Our nation is spending huge amounts of money on their training. These people should not betray their own nation by serving foreign nations. Today thousands of young Indian scientists and technicians are devoted the cause of rebuilding our nation. The country has already achieved the nuclear status as well as become a space power. There are enough opportunities for all the Indian scientists and engineers settled abroad, if they come back to India. They should play an important role in future progress of our country and share the honour of participating in this sacred task.

There is no doubt that India is bound to become one of the most industrialised and scientifically advanced countries in the world. Let every Indian scientist, engineer and technician share the privilege of participating in the noble task of building nation. Thus they can earn the gratitude of their people.

Thus We can see that India is the one country which is affected the most by Brain Drain . The brains of our country are being used by  other countries. Here you can see a graph on Brain Drain in India.

Thus we need to do our bit and prevent Brain Drain, Otherwise our India will be Devoid of our marvellous Geniuses.

Sleepy-head Raina given wake-up call by Dhoni

Buying an ear-splitting alarm clock might be on top of Suresh Raina's shopping list on Friday after the Indian batsman almost missed his team's charter flight to Dhaka for their opening World Cup match against Bangladesh.

The left-handed batsman gave his team mates a few anxious moments when he overslept on Thursday and missed the bus carrying Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men to Chennai airport.

The 24-year-old eventually made a late dash to the airport in a taxi and caught up with his team mates as they were boarding the plane.

In case Raina thought he was indispensable to the team, he was given a wake-up call by his captain.

"When you have a squad of 15 players and you miss a few, you don't really mind it," Dhoni jokingly told reporters.

"But you know when you are in India, there's always somebody who will give you a ride to make sure you make your flight so I'm not really worried about it."

India begin their bid to win a second 50-over World Cup title on Saturday when they play fellow co-hosts Bangladesh.

Teen Smoking

SMOKING!!!! The bad word . For long smoking is regarded as a bad activity which harms our body from all directions

The differences between subjective feelings of those who smoke and those who don’t are shown in behavioral changes that are more apparent in teens than adults. Teens seem to be more abrasive when smoking or they feel like they are older and wiser when they smoke. Why do they smoke when we have seen billions of dollars spent on antismoking campaigns? The American Lung Association estimates that every minute four thousand eight hundred teens will take their first drag off a cigarette. Of those four thousand eight hundred, about two thousand will go on to be chain smokers. The fact that teen smoking rates are steadily increasing is disturbing. We are finding out that about 80% of adult smokers started smoking as teenagers.

We now see a lot of smokers giving each other rewards in social aspects such as conversations, companionships, and other common social contacts.

Teens like to act as if they are someone special or dangerous. By smoking they can act on those feelings. Because it is so forbidden it becomes more alluring to teens. The problem is that when they take that first puff, they can become addicted. The idea that they are breaking the law or going against their parents and schools is an addiction within itself. Kids like to get attention; it does not matter if it’s good attention or bad attention. They crave attention and by smoking they get big attention. The other teens look at them in all kinds of ways and the adults get upset and don’t know what to do.

Nicotine is considered the number one entrance drug into other substance abuse problems. Research shows that teens between 13 and 17 years of age who smoke daily are more likely to use other drug substances. The use of other drugs is part of the peer pressure that our children have to face. The earlier that our youth begin using tobacco, the more likely they will continue using into adulthood.

Why is tobacco so addicting? It is because nicotine acts as a stimulant, which is stimulating the mind, body, and spirit. When the body tolerance levels high then one ends up needing to use larger doses of nicotine to maintain a certain level of the physiological effect. When the body becomes accustomed to the presence of nicotine, it then requires the use of the chemical to help the body to function normally. This level of dependence is referred to as an addiction.

Here are some common experiences from teens who smoke.

♣    They tried their first cigarette in sixth or seventh grade
♣    They often do not perform well in school
♣    They feel like they are not a part of the school
♣    They become isolated from other students
♣    They can’t perform as well at sports events
♣    They feel like they have little hope of going to college
♣    They feel like they need a job to support their smoking habit
♣    They are reported to school officials for skipping classes
♣    They start using other illegal substances
♣    They begin experimenting with alcohol and other drugs
♣    They experience pressure from home and school and use tobacco as a form of relief
♣    Teen smokers enjoy trying to hide their smoking

This has made school more fun for some tobacco users. These types of behaviors get attention because the initiation of smoking is influenced by having a friend, particularly a best friend, who smokes. The risk factors do not apply because those who are young think that they are indispensable. The peers who use or have favorable attitudes toward tobacco use are more likely to use other illegal substances. On the other hand, if the teen becomes a member of a pro-social group, such as those participating in sports, cheerleading, or any club that promotes healthy living, the likelihood that the teen will attempt to stop smoking improves.

The amount of teens smoking cigarettes dropped about 28% in 2001. The following are some reasons why:
a)    The increase of cost in the retail price of cigarettes has gone up 70%
b)    The schools have implemented efforts to fight the use of tobacco (teen smoking).
c)    There is an increase in youth exposure to both state and national mass media campaigns.
d)    The truth on the effects of nicotine that are in tobacco products.

When tobacco companies lost the lawsuit that made them pay for anti-smoking ads, they raised the cost of cigarettes. Young people are having a harder time finding ways to smoke because smokers are paying top dollar for their cigarettes. We are also seeing teens speak out in the media and in person and they have been capturing the attention of their peers and changing attitudes about how un-cool and unhealthy teen smoking is.

The times are changing; what the public and science did not know twenty years ago is now coming to the surface. The fact is that smoking cigarettes can cause many health problems including emphysema, high blood pressure, and various forms of cancer. We are seeing people live longer and healthier lives and the old idea that smoking makes you cool and attractive is gone. This is the truth about cigarettes; they are loaded with harmful chemicals and the end result is that they are a dangerous drug that can seriously harm people.
